Restauration courses

Anyone can participate, regardless of age or gender. Previous work experience is not required.

We teach the basics of furniture restoration techniques through practical work and theoretical knowledge. This course does not prepare professional restorers.

Methods:

We will demonstrate the techniques, and you will try to replicate them. Practical work is accompanied by theoretical comments. The teaching is individualized and based on the item you choose. We will go through the general principles of restoration together. It is recommended to photograph the item before and after restoration, as well as during the work process.

You ask, we answer; if you get stuck, we will assist you.

RESULTS:

You will gain knowledge that will allow you to continue working independently later on. Simpler items can likely be restored in 2-3 days of training. If you’re still interested, you can take on a new item to work on, but you may also choose to have this as a one-time experience. Throughout the learning and work process, you will acquire knowledge and experience in traditional antique furniture finishing techniques, be able to identify common wood types, and work with basic woodworking tools. In the end, you will take home an item that you have restored with your own hands.

TIME:

Twice a month from autumn to spring (at other times by separate arrangement). If there are many participants, we will increase the number of sessions. The work starts at 12:00 and lasts until 17:00.

PLACE:

The workshop is located at Mõisa tee 2, Viimsi. You can find the exact location on the map on our website. Free parking is available in front of the building.

PAYMENT:

The price for one day of the course is 50 EUR.

Payment can be made in cash on-site or in advance based on the invoice we provide. To issue the invoice, please send us an email with the name and address of the invoice recipient, and let us know to which email address we should send the invoice.

The price includes all necessary materials and tools, written study materials, and coffee breaks.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Please bring work clothes with you. We recommend sending us a photo of the item you have chosen for restoration in advance via email. We will discuss together whether the work can be done within the scope of these courses and how long it will take. Suitable items include, for example, a “Luther’s 3-legged chair” or another simple-shaped chair, a small cupboard, table, chest, box, etc.

In these courses, we do not teach spring tying or soft upholstery creation, but we do cover the reupholstering of simpler chairs. Items may also be veneered or covered with plywood. The condition of the veneer is not important.

Participation in the courses can be intermittent; you can attend whenever you’re able. You can join the courses at any time.
